EASTERN SUBURBS
MANUAL TRAINING CENTRE. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. Mr , A. L. Monteith (Wellington East) said • that' l)e- understood that there was a proposal to erect a manual school In East KiJ.birnie to serve the eastern suburbs schools in the matter of woodwork and domestic science. Had the site yet been secured, he asked, and bow far bad the project gone? Tho Hon. C. J. Parr: It is a fact, I believe, that the department is looking into the question of whether it would not be better to establish a manual training centre—not at East Kilbirnie, hut somewhere m the neighbourhood—to obviate the necessity for the children being brought into ’.he city. A report on the subject waa being prepared, and would be ready very shortly. Mr R. MclCeen (Wellington South) suggested that in the vicinity' of the South Miramar School a very suitable site could be found for such a manual centre. He believed that the population of the Watts Peninsula would be very great in the not far distant future, and a manual training school so situated would serve not cn’y Miramar, but the Hataitai, Moxham nvoruie, Lyall Bay, W’orser Bay, and Seatjuti schools, etc.
