POSTCARD SCHEME FOR • SOHdOLS. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ACTS. A recommendation was made to the Chamber of Commerce yesterday that for the purpose of advertising the New Zealand Pavillion at the British Empire Exhibition a sum of up to £IOO from the Wellington publicity fund he devoted towards the provision of postcards to the local schools for eventual dispatch to the Old Country for distribution amongst schools in Great Britain. Mr J. Myers said that when the publicity funds were raised; no mention was made of postcards, and he thought it would be a breach of faith to expend such a large amount for this purpose. Be considered that £lO would be adequate. Mr P. Barcham pointed out that the school children of to-day were the prospective emigrants of to-morrow, 'and there could be no better way of attracting them to the country than per medium of this postcard campaign. Mr Leigh Hunt said that the publicity committee had given very careful consideration to the report, and he believed that anything less than £IOO would be inadequate. Certainly nothing lees than £SO should bo voted. It was agreed to spend £SO on tho purchase of postcards for this purpose, it being explained that the cards would be distributed amongst the children of the local schools, who would write a message on each card. These would then be collected, and dispatched to Enaland for diotribution among school children there.
