THE POLAR FLIGHT
ITALIANS MAY CARRY ON. EXPENSE • THE OBSTACLE. Australian and N.Z. Cabin Association ROME, July 6. Aviators are urging that Italy should undertake the Polar flights, which Captain Amundsen has abandoned. Deputy Locatelli, a noted aviator, has sought permission to make tile journey. The Government has refused, on tho ground of expense, but as seriously considering a proposal that Looatelii should use the machines built for Amundsen for a flight from the North of Scotland to Iceland, Greenland, Labrador, and Canada.
Captain Amundsen’s elaborate plan for a trans-Arctic flight has been abandoned owing to his inability to pay for the aeroplanes, which were built to his order in Italy.
