8.8. HINEMOA . DEPOT FOR SEA SCOUTS. The vice-commodore (Mr W. in proposing the toast of “Our Guests, suggested that the Minister for Marine should consult his colleagues of Cabinet in. regard to presenting the steamer Hinemoa for a depot for the Sea Scouts of Wellington. . This would go a. long way towards fostering the spirit of the sea amongst the youths of the country. Some years ago Sir Joseph Ward had offered to present a cup for an intercolonial race between Australia and New Zealand crews. So far they had not been able to come to any satisfactory arrangement with Australia, and he suggested that the donor present the cup for a New Zealand interprovincial race. The crews should be comprised of 'youths under twenty years of age." Mr Duncan said he was pleased to see so many old friends with them that night, and he had pleasure in coupling the names of the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Hon. C. E. Statham, Mr A. L. Monteith, M.F., and the Right Hon. Sir J. G. Ward, with the toast. : MINISTER IN REILLY.

The Hon. G. J. Anderson, in reply, said that he was impressed with the suggestion made by Mr Duncan in regard to the Hinemoa, and that he would keep the project in view, and give it favourable consideration. SIR JOSEPH WARD'S CUP.

Sir Joseph Ward, in replying to the toast, said, in reference to his promise to donate a cup, that he would be only too pleased to accede to the request, and would leave all the details of the race to l«e decided by the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club and the Royal Yacht Squadron (Auckland). A PLEASANT EVENING.

The following toasts were also honoured: —"Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club," proposed by Captain Chudley and replied to by Mr Berkeley Clarke; "Kindred Clubs,’’ proposed by. Mr N. Blair, and replied to by Messrs Paterson, Aldred and Jack; "Harbour Board,” proposed by Mr C. P. Tringham, and replied to by Mr A. G. Barnett; and “The Press," proposed by Captain Post. During the evening items were contributed by Messrs Mayall, Oswin, Brennan and the Aeolian Quartette. The list of trophy winners during the past season has been already published. His Excellency the Governor-General presented the trophies to the winning crews.
