“DEVOTION TO THE EMPIRE” PRAISED BY “TIMES.” “SENSE OF SERVICE.’* B.v Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Published in “The Times." LONDON, July '4. ‘‘New Zealand’s achievement in the first year of the present immigration scheme reflects the greatest- credit on her Government, and representatives in Britain,” says “The Times,” in a leading article, apropos of the departure of another batch of emigrants, and the appearance of the report of the overseas delegation. . “The Times” adds: “The community has committed itself to heavy expenditure in repatriating and settling service men, and a certain amount of unwise speculation has caused many farmers to proceed cautiously for a whiltin the employment ot fresh labour. The best lands have long been 6old, and the price of good land is abnorrnajly high.?’ In praising Mr Massey, the paper says he stands alone as tho last Prime Minister of the war period. “His cheerful acceptance of the increase i naval programme, due to the abandonment of Singapore, proves the manner in which his devotion to the Empire has lison superior to his natural disappointment at seeing the abandonment of. tho Imperial policies for which he fought so bard. Amid the present perplexities it is pleasant to reflect that so great faith and sense of service inspire the leader of our remotest dominion.”
