MAORI LEAGUE PLAYER
STATEMENTS REFUTED. ONLY OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES. Per Pres* Association. AUCKLAND, July 5. The statements attributed to the Maori footballer Te Whata that he received consideralble sums of money from the New Zealaifd Rugby League for playing League football, were refuted by Te Whata at a meeting of the New Zealand League Council last evening. In reply to the chainman Te Whata said: “I stated clearly on the application I sent in that I received the money from the New South Wales League.” Te Whata signed a declaration that the Prete statement that he received money from the New Zealand League woo incorrect ; that be had never received any money other than out-of-pocket expenses while playing under the League’s jurisdiction. The application for registration was approved.
