PARIS FROCKS

A VIENNA BAN. LONDON, March 13. M. Paul Poiret, the famous Paris dress-designer, arrived at Vienna'last week, accompanied by a bevy of mannequins and a truckload of frocks, with the object of exhibiting some of his latest creations. However, says the Vienna correspondent of “The Times,” he met with unexpected opposition from dressmakers and modistes, who at once raised violent objections. They claimed that competition would be grossly unfair, as, owing to tho depreciation of the franCj M. Poiret could sell Paris frocks at prices with which they could not possibly compete. M. Poiret used all the arts of persuasion to induce the Viennese firms to allow an exhibition, hut without success. He began showing frocks privately, but even this raised protests. Eventually he was compelled to pack his frocks, and he left tho city for Prague.
