MARINE ENGINEERS
THE ANNUAL BMOKO. The members of the Wellington branch of the Marine Engineers spent a very enjoyable evening on Saturday, when the annual "smoko" was held in the Institute rooms. Mr Bosire was in the chair, and among thoSe present were Sir John Luke, M.P., Messrs N. D. Hood (chief inspector of machinery), D. K. Blair (Lloyds surveyor), Captain Macindoe (secretary of the Merchant Service Guild). The task of proposing the toast to the King fell to the chairman, who also proposed "Our Guests." This was responded to by Sir John Luke. Other toasts were: “The Institute," proposed by Mr Galloway and responded to hy Mr W. Sommerville; "The Mercantile Marine," proposed by Mr N. D. Hood, responded to by Mr A. Walker; "Shipping Companies," proposed by Captain Macindoe, responded to by Mr Mowatt; "Tho Press," proposed hy Mr Martin. Mnsical and vocal items were rendered by Messrs Brydone, Pritohard and Whittle.
