THAT INFERNAL FLANNELETTE

At Shrewsbury the borough coroner (Colonel E Cureton) held an inquest on Christian Carnaby (19), a laundress, who died in the Royal Salop Infirmary from injuries caused by burns. It transpired that Carnaby took 'her first situation at Cound Hall, tho residence of Mr A. C. McCorquodale, and went there to take up her duties. The girl..told the doctor that while she was engaged in unpacking her bos the candle she held set fire to her petticoat, which was flannelette. . The coroner found that tho girl -lied from injuries accidentally sustained, and remarked that all the burning cases he had had were the result of wearing ‘'this infernal flannelette." If the common sense of commerce could not find better stuff to.wear than flannelette, it was a poor look-out.
