DID FIDO COMMIT SUICIDE P This esoapadee of a young collie dog were related! in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday when Noel Francis Wallace was charged with being the owner of a dangerous dog that had attacked a person in an unenclosed space. Tlie case was one in which a young child at Rona Bay had been severely , bitten by the animal. His Worship had adjourned the case a fortnight ago, and had advised tho defendant to got the dog destroyed. When the case was again called yes torday Mr Jackson, who appeared for the defendant, explained the position - The dog had been taken from Rons Bay to, the house of a man living of the Hutt. When it was decided to destroy the dog, it was found that there .was nobody to do the deed. However, the police came to the rescue a.nd they signified their intention of taking the animal’s life. The dog had evidently got wind of this preposition, for when the police oame to put an end to his young career thev found that he had disappeared. The district was scoured, hut the dog coul.l not be found. “It may have happened, Your Worship, that the dog hag committed suicide,” concluded counsel amidst laughter. Counsel said the defendant was only a young girl and out of work, and any fine that His Worship might impose would of oourse fall updn the mother, who was not in good circumstances. His Worship remarked that it was unfortunate, but the defendant would have to pay the expenses incurred. Tho expenses amounting to £6 7s 6d were ordered to ho paid by the defendant, who was given 21 days to find the money.
