“ DRUNKEN ” POLES
UTILITARIAN, BUT UGLY. UNDERGROUND LINES? A complaint against the unaesthotic appearance of the hydro-electrio power lines in the Levin district was made by Ml’ W. H. P. Barber at the meeting of the Hutt Valley Power Board yesterday. “I came down the Manawatu the other day,” he said, “and, though it may be defended from an engineering point of view, it looks very ugly to see these poles leaning in every direction. I hope it can he avoided in this district.” The engineer: You have got to throw tho poleß over at an angle against the strain. Mr Barber: I think it would even look better to have the poles stayed, provided they were straight. We are always talking about beautifying the district, but these pole lines will not help in that direction. We will never get over the trouble until we put tho Fines underground.
