AMATEUR ATHLETICS
WILSON BENEFIT MEETING TOMORROW. DEWAR SHIELD COMPETITION. Arrangement* are now well in band tor the Wilson benefit meeting to-morrow-afternoon, and a good afternoon's sport Is anticipated. Among the visiting athletes will ha Grant, the Auckland cyclist, fie is probably the fastest man in New Zealand over the half-mile course, and hie participation in events to-morrow will add to the keenness of the competition. Several of the competitors hold New Zealand and Australasian championships* and this will probably be the last oppor* t unity of seeing them in action this season. During the day Mr H. S, Alpe. the well-known-walker, will walk from Petone to Wellington and will finish at Athletic Park, after doing two rounds of the course. Mr Alpe has already collected a good deal of money for various objects by his walking all over the Dominion. , The programme is varied and interesting, and it is hoped that there will he a large attendance of the public to show their sympathy with Mr H. E. Wileon and their appreciation of his efforts while representing this Dominion.
