BURGLARY AT WHANGAREI

CONFESSION BY ACCUSED. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. (Special to “N.Z. Times.’") WHANGAREI, January 28. In connection with the burglary at Whangarei, at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr R. W. Tate, S.M., a man named Conrad Stephen Powell appeared on remand to answer a charge of breaking and entering the railway refreshment rooms at Whangarei and stealing about £l2 worth of goods therefrom, the property of H. S. Me Kenzie. This was a sequel to a burglary which took place on January 20th. J t Detective De Norville stated that entrance had been effected by breaking a window at the rear of the premise* to enable a latch to be unfastened. The stolen goods, of which a quantity had been recovered, were six boxes of cigarettes, tobacco, and chewing gum. Accused had been arrested on the 21st by witness and Constable Burnett. Accused, who pleaded guilty, wa* committed to the Auckland Supreme Court for sentence.
