ORONGORONGO SUPPLY

PIPES TENDER ACCEPTED. £IOO,OOO IN LOCAL LABOUR. The City Council yesterday accepted a tender for the pipes which are to bring the water through from Orongaronga. Tne Mayor said the tender was the lowest submitted, and the firm was a New Zealand firm. The pipes are to be of steel. It is understood that one of the effects of accepting this tender will be that about £IOO,OOO will be spent in the city In labour. Altogether there were 10 tenders. On January ' 19th it was reported that of the 10,523 feet of tunnel

length, 9932 feet had been pierced. It is expected the tunnel will he through by the middle of next month. A Press Association message from Wanganui states that advice has been received by the New Zealand Spiral and Lock and Bar Company, of Wanganui, that their tender, running into £135,000, has been aocepted by the Wellington City Council for the supply of pipes in connection with the Wellington water-works extensions.
