MATCH FOR SOUTHLAND* In connection with Southland’s eff.vta to have a match against the New South Wales team, a letter was received frc.ro that body thanking the. association for its efforts to have the match granted. The reason given by the New Zealand Cricket Association for omitting Southland from the. itinerary is the limited time of the tour"; but the executive was under the impression that the primary object of such visits was to encourage cricket iu the provinces, and it seemed most unfair that three minor associations within a radius of 130 miles should each be given a match, while Southland was cut out altogether. The Southland Association was of the opinion that the itinerary oould be amended in order to give it a match and yet cause no undue hardship to the other centres. The itinerary suggested was: — v. Wellington, February Bth, 9th and 11th ;* v. Southland, February 13th and 14th; ▼. Otago, February 16th, 18th and 19th; v. Canterbury, February 23rd'. 23th and 26th: v. Combined South Canterbury and Ashburton, at Ashburton, February 27th and 28th; first test, at Christchurch, February 29th, March Ist and 3rd. A request was made that it might have the support of the Wellington A ssociation for these proposals. The chairman explained that the question was being reviewed that evening by the Cricket Council, but ho expressed himself as not very confident about the itinerary .being changed. NEW SOUTH WALES TEAMS VISIT. Arrangements for the forthcoming visit of the New South Wales team on February 15th were discussed. Massey, and Sir Francis Bell. The charges for admission to the Basin Reserve for the New South Wales match wore fixed at 5s for admission to the enclosure for the three days. PAYMENT . OF UMPIRES. PLUNKET SHIELD MATCHES. The treasurer reported concerning the returner' for the ’two Plunket shield matches, and the Town v. Country match, these being:- Match v. Wellington's share about. £90.. The profit on the two shield matches was thus about £2OO. and it was explained- that there was a loss of about £27 on the Town v. Country. match. CHAMPIONSHIP PfeNNANT. • In, accordance, with-notice given, Mr R., A. Perry moved that the association ! take steps to provide a pennant to be • given -to the champion dubs of the season..' nil clubs, senior and junior, being eligible to compete. At present, he said, there was nothing for the junior clubs to compete for, ana many of them did not take a very .keen interest in the competition for this reason; If. as he suggested, a pennant were provided, it would greatly stimulate the rivalry of the clubs. A suitable pennant, In the association’s colours, could he provided for about 30s. It -was left to Mr Perry to submit designs and estimates for such a pennant to the next meeting.
