POINCARE’S BILL
DISCUSSION BEGINS. LEFT WING HOPEFUL. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received January 26, 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, January 26. The Chamber has begun discussion of the Government’s proposals to strengthen tlje franc. It is expected to last for ten days, and the proposals will be hotly fought. The Left bloc have hopes of overthrowing the Government, but the latter’s defeat is unlikely. A Government representative declared that the proposals at the outside would mean an increase-of 4 per cent, in the cost of living. It is expected that Poincare will endeavour to dose the general discussion to-day, in order to make room for detailed discussion.
