FLAPPER TABLE MANNERS. Someone the other day remarked that seemingly the only piece of bad table manners of which the young girls of to-day are not guilty was that of eating with their knives. “They ’ don’t do that,” she said. “But they do everything else that young girls of another generation were warned not to do. “They put their elbows on the table, they 101 lin their ohairs, and sometimes sat sideways, leaning on the table with the left arm as if too weak to sit up, and eat carelessly with the right hand. They, toy with their glasses, crumb their bread, and flourish their forks or spoons in the air as they talk.” ' HOTEL MANNERS. This critic of the flapper’s table manners drew her deductions from the young women she had seen day after day at the hotels and restaurants where supposedly the smartest people foregather. She would not have been so much surprised if »he had found such manners in the cheaper places where working ’girls are gathered for their hasty luncheons. Perhaps this criticism, or part ot it, is justified. . However, the fact remains that the young woman who has been carefully brought up at home or who ha® been educated at a hoarding school ot high, standing does not indulge in these lackadaisical manners. It is also a fact that two or three Young women displaying such foolish manners are more conspicuous' than a dozen or iso who conform to the established convention. Wo are apt to draw our conclusions then from the conspicuous minority rather than from the well-bred majority.
