CLERGYMAN FINED
FOR PRANK ON BISHOP. BOGUS TELEGRAM. (Sydney “Sun” Cable.) LONDON, January 20. Tho Rev. J, Karran was fined £lO with £2O costs, for sending the Bishop of Sodor and Man a telegram signed “Baldwin,” arranging for a meeting in Liverpool. Karran explained that he concocted the wire as a joke to cheer a girl passenger threatened with seasickness. It was intended to suggest that Mr Baldwin wanted to offer the Bishop an English bishopric of which there had been local rumours. A practical joke played on the Bishop of Sodor and Man caused a sensation in the lisle of Man. The Bishop received a hoaxing telegram summoning him to the mainland, which compelled him to abandon a speech in the local Parliament on the Manx Church Assembly Bill. The Rev. J. Karran, vicor at Marathan, confessed that he had instigated the sending of the tele* gram. The disclosure shocked church circles.
