BUSINESS BEFORE COUNCIL. POPULAR TENNIS COURTS. The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held last evening, present being Mr H. W. Short (Deputy-Mayor) . Messrs C. Marquis, H. Levy C. Bowden, E. A. Dawson, and the borough manager. Mr R. B. Witty. Wellington Harbour Board submitted an account amounting to £2lB 3s 3d for tho storage of the boiler for the Duchess. The engineer to the Harbour Board had agreed to reduce the charge to Is per week for the second and third months, which would reduce the account to £lO2 9s lOd. The council agreed to write and thank the Harbour Board for its consideration. SUCCESS OF TENNIS COURTS. The report of the manager stated that the tennis courts continued to be well patronised whenever the weather was favourable, and the receipts had already passed the amount estimated for the year, £2OO. Complimentary remarks had been passed as to the condition of the courts., but it would be necessary to arrange for top-dressing before the warm weather was over. The bathing sheds were not used so freely as might have been expected, and provision should he made in next year’s estimates for considerable improvements. Such top-dressing of the tennis courts as is necessary is to he done as the opportunity arises after the heavy part of the season is over. ; The general manager reported that the elean-up week resulted in over 40 loads of refuse being carted by the council’s carts to the tip. The use of the sanitary bins a® autnorised by the council would have to be insisted on more rigidly, as a tendency to use kerosene tins was still noticed. It was reported th'at from April Ist to date 68 building permits had been issued, representing an estimated value of £27,768. Tho fees paid amounted to £65 10*.
