OTHER COLLIERIES IDLE. THOMAS RESIGNS. Reuter’s Telegram. LONDON, January 23. Tho railway strike position is easier. In London a fair number of trains are running. Further Welsh collieries have been rendered idle. Defections among the ranks of the National Union of Railwayman are increasing. Mr J. H., Thomas has resigned the political secretaryship of the union.
SCOTTISH TRAIN
ATTEMPT AT WRECKING. . (Sydney "Sun” Cable.) LONDON, January 24. An attempt was made to wreck a train between Glasgow and Edinburgh. A goods train scattered an obstruction of planks and stones. Strikers, throwing -stones from a bridge at Wellingborough, hit a fireman and knocked him unconscious.
