EARLIER TO WORK
NOTABLE DEPARTURE FOREIGN OFFICE STARTS SOONER.. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 25, 8.35 p.m.) LONDON. January 25. The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent says that Mr Macdonald has established a notable departure from tradition by starting work at the Foreign* Office before 10 o’clock. For generations the working houri there have been even shorter than in the other Government departments, starting at least an hour later, though the higher officials were frequently found working late in the evening. Mr Macdonald is determined to spare neither himself nor his subordinates, holding that abnormal times require abnormal efforts.
LABOUR’S POLICY
CHELMSFORD SATISFIED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, January 24. Interviewed by the “Daily Herald,” Viscount Chelmsford stated that he did not agree to accept office until he was satisfied that the immediate policy of the Labour Party was srucli as he could reasonably help.

MINISTERS RESIGN. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 25. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 25. AH Ministers have resigned their trade union positions, including Mr J. H. Thomas. Air Vernon Hartshorn, Mr Stephen Walsh, Air J. R. Clyncs. Air E. Shinwell, and Aliss Alargaret Bondfield.

The Earl of Harrowhy, prior to sailing for New Zealand by the AlaunganuiT predicted a brief career for the British Labour Ministry. Its continuance in power, ho believes, would result in chaos and further unemployment. John Herbert Dudley Ryder, fifth Earl of Harrowby, is a partner in Ooutts aud Company’s Bank, London. He haa had no political career.
