FINANCES BUOYANT
TAXATION TO BE REDUCED. STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 25. Before leaving for Wellington to. night, accompanied by several Ministers of the Crown, the Rt. Hon. W T . F. Massey said there was no reason why Parliament should meet earlier than usual. He thought he could see the way clear to lighten the burden of taxation this year, and the matter would receive early consideration by Cabinet. The national finances were buoyant and the latest progress returns of the consolidated fund were satisfactory. A substantial revenue was anticipated by the end of the financial year, and there was every indication of a satisfactory balance.
