ENGINEER RESIGNS
QUARREL WITH MAYOR SENSATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS HINTED AT. “MORE BEHIND IT.” Per Pre-s Association. BLENHEIM, January 25. A hint of sensational developments in municipal matters was contained in a brief discussion at the Borough Council meeting last evening on the subject of the resignation of the borough engineer, Mr H. M. W. Richardson. At the conclusion of the meeting Councillor W. T. Churchward said he desired to move the' following: (1) That Mr Richardson be requested to withdraw his resignation as borough engineer upon the completion of the waterworks and Waterlea footbridge; (2) that Mr Richardson continue to act as borough engineer in conformity with duties to be definitely set out. “Mr Richardson’s resignation is due to a quarrel with the Mayor, Mr E. S. Parker,” said Councillor Churchward. “The engineer alleged that the Mayor insulted him and therefore resigned.” The Mayor objected and the matter is being taken without notice of motion, because there was more behind it than councillors were aware of. Councillor Churchward went on to state that it appeared as if the council would have to choose between the Mayor and engineer. Councillor Churchward then gave formal notice of motion.
