PRICES OF BUTTER AND CHEESE. Messrs A. H. Turnbull and Co. report:— Sinco our last report, Messrs W. Weddel and. Co., Ltd., have cabled us the following quotations, dated January 18th, tile prices for January Uth being given in parentheses :—Danish butter (222 s to 2245), January 18tb, 220 sto 2225; New Zealand, unsalted (216 s to 218 s), 212 s to 2145; New Zealand, salted (212 s to 214 5 ), 208 sto 2125; (market steady) market steady. New Zealand cheese, white (102 s to 104 s), 10-Js to 105 s; Now Zealand cheese, coloured (102 s to 104 s, market steady), 104 s to 106 s, market steady. Butter, —The spot market during the last week declined from 4s to 6s, but at the time of writing seems to have recovered to some extent, bo long as tbe market remains at its present high level buyers will be nervous, and irregular quotations must be expected. Forward buyers ceased to operate altogether last week, becoming nervous owing to the weakening in spot quotations. Cheese. —In epito of the heavy arrivals of Now Zealand cheese in December, the spot market \n» remained at a high level. It must be remembered that a large quantity of New Zealand cheese, October. November, and December make was sold forward at prices ranging from 9(d to 10 f.o.b. Buyers of this produce are doing their utmost to keep the market up, and are assisting the consigning factories ,to get good prices for their shipments now arriving. Forward buyers of cheese are practically non-existent, although there is a small demand for cheese up to the end of January make at Bjd. However, factories generally are looking for better prices.
