MARIST OLD BOYS

REUNION ON SATURDAY. A most successful .and enjoyable reunion of the Marist Old Boys in the form of a "smoko” took place in the Farmers’ Institute Hall on Saturday night, between 200 and 300 old boys being present. Mr L. Seivers (preeident of the association) opened by expressing his pleasure at meeting again so many old boys. He briefly' covered the recent work of the association. Mr A. J. Scott was entrusted with the toast of “Alma Mater,” which was replied to by the Rev. Bro. Justine, who apologised for the absence of the Rev. Bro. Basil. In comparing these with past times, the rev, brother said that the preeent-day schoolboys were upholding the standard set by the old hoys. “Catholic Education” was proposed by Mr M. O’Kane, and replied to by Mr J. J. Burke. The toast of “M. 8.0.8. Sports Branches” was proposed by Mr M. Walsh, who congratulated the cricket, Rugby and Soccer teams on their achievements during the past season. Mr Haydon replied on behalf of the cricket teams, Mr J. Troy for Rugby, and Mr W. Hannifin for Soccer. During the evening an enjoyable musical programme was submitted, the contributors being Messrs A. C. Fogarty, J. Fotlhy,- N. Aitken, and J. T. Skedden. The following sports trophies were presented: Rugby.—Best players: Senior, J. McClteary; junior, W. Sheenan; third grade, M. James; fourth grade, E. Barry; intermediate, C. Davies; fifth grade, R. Maloney. Soccer. —Most improved players: Senior, F. Gamble; junior, F. Barlow and V. Daniell; third, M. Gardiner, W. Cudby, and A. Scanlon; fourth, M. Quaill and J.. Taylor; fourth B, R. Lafiart, J. Fitzgerald, and J. Devons; fifth, W. Condon and L. Reid. The opportunity was taken to present the Marist brothers with a cheque towards the expenses of the Christmas holidays. The energetio committee responsible for the success of the reunion was composed as follows: —R. Hickey, F. Gamble, W. Heavey, D. Donovan, W. Hanofer.
