HARBOUR TRAFFIC
RETURNS SHOW A SLIGHT INCREASE. WHAT FIGURES REVEAL. Traffic returns for the month of October, presented to the Eastbourne Borough Council last evening, show a general increase iii the number of pa®. Bengal's carried by the vessels in commission. For the corresponding month of last year the Duchess, now out of commission, carried 34,282 passengers; the \[uritai (in September of this year), 86,212 ; and the Cobar, 24,673 passengers, it® against 37,658 and 26,259 in the month just passed. The figures for October are as follow, with the previous month’s statistic® appearing in parentheses : —Muritai: Passengers carried 37,653 (36,212), round trips 90 (93), distance steamed 1350 (1395), oil consumed per month 65,165 tons (66,025), average oil consumption per day 2166 tons (2167), average consumption per round trip .722 (.722). Cobar: Passengers carried 26,269 (24,673), round trips 175 (155), total distance steamed 2450 miles (2325), coal consumed for month 80.5 tons (80), average ooal consumption per day 2.5 tons (2.5), average coal consumption per round trip .53 tons (.46). The figures for the Cobar axe taken from the previous, year.
