Though tlie “Keep to the left” ukase for pedestrians has been in operation for a lengthy period, its observance is still anything hut universal. The old tendency, and its observances, bo take the inside running persists, and Ims to he checked, and the new rule is periodically enforced by police stationed at busy city corners. The real trouble, however, occurs at holiday times, when the country comes to town. The countryman-, claiming an inalianalble right to wander over the whole footpath, finds himself completely at sea under the reformed conditions, and is constantly in conflict with the police on point duty.
