HOSPITAL ACCOUNTS

TRADES COUNCIL’S PROTEST

The decision of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to employ an agency to collect outstanding accounts for patients' fees was discussed at a meeting of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council. The council expreesed its view of this procedure in trie following resolution : ‘‘This council deprecates the action of the Hospital Board in placing the business of collecting its accounts in the hands of the Commercial Agency, and suggests as an alternative that the staff at the hospital should include ono cr two collectors.” I>elegates present generally approved the principle of the hospital being administered entirely by public revenue, and contended that the charge for treatment of patients should be upon the community, and not upon the individual sufferer.
