ORPHANS’ CHRISTMAS. ART UNION DRAWN YESTERDAY. The art union organised by the commercial travellers of Wellington to raise, funds to provide Christmas toys for orphans of tne city was drawn yesterday. The dlrawing was done by Mrs Lewis in the presence of the police, tfie Press, and a number of members of the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association. The winner of the first prize is H. Headland. ' THE FINANCIAL RESULT. It is anticipated the effort will yield a 6um of about £IOOO. At one time there was some doubt as to whether four figures would be -reached, and some of the members of the association guaranteed the difference. However, it was announced yesterday that it would not be necessary to call on the guarantors. 1 ‘ The committee which ran the art union has expressed a wish to thank the publio for its support, the ■ lady assistants, and the : merchants _of the city who made generous contributions to the fund.
