AN OBSOLETE SYSTEM
PLUMBERS MAKE COMPLAINT. BY-LAWS COMMITTEE INCIDENT. A deputation from the Wellington plumbers waited upon the legislation committee of the City Council yesterday to make representations as to the proponed emendations to th© by-laws governing tbo flushing system. They understood, said Mr F. E. Harridge, that tho matter was one of getting tho best cistern to prevent the waste of water. They had gone to some trouble and had collected some data on tho matter, finally resolving to support tho hell cistern. ... Ulr 11. Thomson pointed out th.it no valve system could give satisfactory results. In other parts of the world it had been condemned becauso they could not prevent waste of water. In answer to a question by Councillor W. H. Bennett, he stated that in Gisborne. which had the mast up-to-dats system of by-laws in New Zeeland, tbs valve cistern was prohibited. “We are working under one of tha most obsolete systems in New Zealand,” bo complained, before being given the customary reply that the committee would consider tlieir representations.
