THE FASHIONS
LONDON LEADS THE WAY.
MORE PARISIAN THAN PARIS. Mr Hugh Wright has returned t oAuckland after a nine months’ absence, during which he has investigated retail methods abroad. "Old London,’’ says Mr Wright, "still leads the way, particularly in men’s fashions. Hundreds of Americans go there for their clothes. “Even American women now want their clothes from London, where there is more Parisian material sold than in Paris. In addition, English textiles still hold their world renown. "However, the Germans are collaring the soft hat trade, whilst the French are ‘getting in’ on the silk trade—almost monopolising it," said Mr Wright. “The effects of this foreign competition hnd a deleterious effect on British workers," said Mr Wright, hut he had not investigated the extent of this, his observations being confined almost entirely to the retail trade.
