At Fortworth, in Texas, Dr Frederick Cook, Arctic explorer and oil man, was found guilty of using the mails to defraud in promoting oil companies on all of 12 counts, mud sentenevd to 14 years and 9 months’ imprisonment. A fine of 12,000 dollars was imposed. Thirteen others received prison terms of one year to eight years, and large fines. Cook’s partner, A. K. Eckman, was sentenced to seven years.’ imprisonment, and ordered to pay a similar fine.
