YESTERDAY'S IITTING POLICE AND CIVIL ACTIONS. Three offenders for their first lapse of drunkenness made an appearance before Mr E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Two, who failed to appear, were each ordered to forfeit tho amount of their bail. Ids. The third, who, explained Sub-Inspector Cummings, had been drinking ‘heavily for some time past, and who still showed 6igns of unsteadiness, was remanded for a week for medical treatment Having, as the Sub-Inspector said, been found wandering at the back of premises at night, endeavouring to "pick up tome thing for her (benefit, Mathilda Maddison. aged 52, was charged with vagrancy in that she had not sufficient lawful means of support. “Little is known of her, ’ concluded the Sub-inspector asking for a week’s remand for a "clean up,’’ ‘ but she _ has been going about town for some time, and is in a filthv condition through sleeping out.” The remand asked for was granted.
