SUBURBAN POST OFFICES

CHAAIBER OF COMMERCE AND HOURS OF ATTENDANCE.

DEPARTMENT’S RETICENCE,

In reference to a letter dispatched to the Post Office authorities by the Chamber of Commerce, urging that the houre of attendance at the Courtenay place and Te Aro post offices be extended from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to S a.m. to 6 p.iri., the council yesterday received a letter from the secretary to thfe Post Office (Air A. Markman), who declared that although the matter had been fully considered it was felt that the request could not be granted. Tlie prbsent hours of attendance at Courtenay place had always been observed, while the Te Aro office had observed them since November, 1921. The letter concluded that if the request were granted it would be necessary to increase tlie staff, which the department felt it was not prepared to do at present.
