Messrs Redpath and Co notify that the Holmado is due to-day and leaves later in the day for Dunedin, Ttxnaru and Oamaru, being duo back at iho beginning of next week. Mr R. C. Jngram lias joined the Xittawa as second officer, and Mr J, Warcup has joined the Mararoa as third officer. Regret will be expressed in shipping circles at the somewhat sudden death of Mr William McLean, late engineer of the steamer Wairau. Mr McLean was on a visit to his brother at Hawora, when, a few days ago, he took suddenly ill, and died at the Hawora Hospital on Saturday evening last. Some forty yea>ra ago he entered the Union Company’s service, and was for some time in charge of the company's workshops at Port Chalmers. About twelve years ago he removed to Wellington, and entered the service of Messrs Eekford and Co., and the Greater part of his time to was with that firm he was engineer of the Wairau. Mr McLean was the elder brother of Mrs Miller, of Karepa street, Brooklyn. He leaves a family of three daughters and one son.

Mr A. Campbell, second officer, lias left the Tees, and his place has been taken by Mr F. C. Nayor. Mr R. Dunn, third officer of the Komata, has come ashore, and Mr K. G. Don has been engaged.

Mesfirs Levir: and Co. advise that tho Wakatu is due in port from Lyttelton and ICaikoura to-day, sailing again at 4 p.m. on Thursday on her return trip. The Kennedy is due in port to-morrow and sails at 4 p.ni the same day for Foxton.

The Wairau sails for Blenheim at 4 p.m. to-day. and is due tack on Friday. The auxiliary scow Echo is due in port ro-morrow and sails at 4 p.m. for Blenheim.

Messrs McArthur and Co. advise that the Opua is due in port from Greymouth on Thursday morning with a load of timber for Petone and Wellington, and aftor discharge she proceeds to Tairakohe to load cement. The Orepuki is due in port to-day from Lyttelton and! sails the same day for Westport and Greymouth. Mr L. S. Keane, late third officer of the Flora, will transfer to the Kawatiri, relieving E. B. Th© U.S.S Company's trans-Pacino passenger steamer Tahiti left at 4.25 p m. yesterday for San Francisco. MOERAKFS MOVEMENTS. The intercolonial passenger steamer Moera'vi, from Melbourne, is due at Bluff to-day, and is to leave there this evenning for Lyttelton and Wellington. She is duo here on Sunday and sails on Monday for Melbourne direct. KARAMEA FOR SOUTH. The S.S. and A. Company advise that their liner Karr.mca loaves Wellington on Friday for Lyttelton and Dunedin. PORT NAPIER, The C. and D. liner Port Napier sails for Gisborne at 10 a.m. to-day, and clears Auckland finally about November 7th for London. H. K. HALL FOR DOCKING. Forty-three days out from Rarotonga, the five-masted schooner H. K. Hall was tout*:! into Sydney on October 17th by the tug Heroic and anchored in Rose Bay. The present visit of the H. K. Hall was not included in her original programme, as she was under charter to load phosphates at Malden Island for Dunedin; but during loading operations she ran aground, as a result of which ehe was ordered to Sydney for docking. UNDER A NEW FLAG. Recent advices from America brought row's that several German sailing -vessels, well-known in Australia, have changed hands, and will in future fly the Chilian flag. The vessels are the Alberlus Vianon, Claus, Isbeck, Potosi, end Olivia. The four first-named have been acquired hy Gonzales and! Saffia, of Valparaiso, while tho Olivia is now the property of Duran and 00. It is expected they will be ©nr'oloyed in the nitrate trade between Amer.'ian ports and Europe, but it is not ait all impossible that some of them tvill come to Australia. NEW ITALIAN LINER. An interesting visitor to Sydney recently was the new Italian liner Principessa Giovanna, which cam© from Genoa with passengers and general cargo. The Principessa Giovanna v. as specially built for the Ifcaly-Australia trade, and was only completed this year. She is one of two vessels ordered at the same time, and her sister chip, the Principessa Maria, is scheduled to commence her maiden voyage to Australia .next month. Built in Taranto to the order of the Lloyd Sabaa-fio Line, the Principessa Giovann*i has had special accommodation made for passengers. She is of £435 tons gross, and her principal dimensions are: Length 441 ft, depth 40ft, and a beam of 59ft. She is now named the Kut, and has been taken over by the Australian-Oriental Line to replace the Changsha on the run between Australia and Hongkong.
