TESTAMENT LEAGUE
81,200 NEW MEMBERS. The final meeting of the Pocket Testament League Committee was held at tho Bible House on Tuesday. Mr G. A. Troup in the chair, and Messrs J. G. Port, H. D. Grocott, W. HopUirk, W. Greig, E. P. Hay, T. Ballinger, H. South and Rev. A. T. Thompson were also present. Several apologies were received. The Rev. A. T. Thompson reported that 55,200 Testaments had arrived in the Dominion for the effort, 24,000 of which had been held up by the dock Btrike at Home, and so had arrived too late for Mr Davis to use in his campaign. However, 31,200 members of the league had been enrolled, chief ly boys and girls, and had received the Testaments. Auckland, Palmerston North, Gisborne, Masterton, Levin, WoodviUc, Wellington, Christchurch, Lyttelton and Ashburton and other places had been visited. Never had there been an effort on so extensive a scale to i each the young people of New Zealand with the Scriptures.
Arrangements are being made to use the 24,000 Testaments that have recently arrived, mainly in South Can terbury, Otago, and Taranaki. A sum of £IOO4 8s 4d had been received at. the Bible House,. Wellington, as subscriptions and donations for payment of the Testaments besides what had been raised' in Auckland and Dunedin for the effort there. A little help is ©till needed to moot the cost of the effort.
The committee considered the question of future policy, and resolved that the effort be sustained, and that next year and in following years the league aim at 10,000 new members each year, and so seek to establish a habit of regular reading of God’s Word on the part of the young people. Mr Davis, who so successfully carried the effort through, sailed for China on Saturday from Auckland, in answer to mi .invitation to come and work in Gen?rnl Feng’s army there.
