CANTERBURY MARKETS POTATOES PRACTICALLY UNS ALEABLE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, October 39. Potatoes are apparently a drug on the market, and merchants are adopting the hand to mouth principle regarding them, i.e., just purchasing from farmers any requirements they may have. Farmers have been round the merchants this week trying to dispose of lots up to seventeen tons, so evidently there are potatoes still to be had in Canterbury if required. Partridge peas—Advices from Home confirm the statement made last week that the quantity and quality are better than usual. In consequence it is hard to d.'* business in pea© grown in the Dominion. There has been a little business done in chaff during the past few days, purchasers preferring to buy on samples rather than on grade. Two or three fair sized parcels of perennial ryegrass have been shipped north, but in other seeds business shows little activity, CUSTOMS REVENUE. The Customs revenue collected at Wellington yesterday aggregated <£6720.
