BY DR. C. M. HECTOR. An interesting and instructive address on cancer was given by Dr. C. M. Hector, the eminent pathologist, in the Red Cross chambers- last night. Cancer, said J>r. Hector, was one of the most malignant diseases k'.own to mankind. An far back as 17J2 a ward was set apart in n hospital in England for research in cancer. To-day, the cancer research department of tho Middlesex hospital was tho most up-to-date in the world, and did much to relievo the pain of patients suffering from cancer. The British Empire Cancer campaign had been started for the purpose of getting radium for the treatment of cancer. Tho branch of the Red Cross in New Zealand had taken up the campaign to collect- funds to buy radium. Research into the cause of cancer bad shown that the whole problem hay in preventing the perverted action of certain cells. There were millions of cells in the human body, and they and their products supplied all the wants of the body. Still, the root of cancer remained obscure.
