THE CANVASSER AND THE WINE SAMPLES.
That he had stolen Sw attache case and contents, valued at £2, the property of the Kftipnrn Wine Company, Wfis admitted by a young man, Charles Richard Bannister, aged 23, who appeared at the AJugistrate’s Court yesterday.
Detective Nuttall explained that accused had been employed by tho complainant company as a canvasser, but had disappeared with the bag and its contents of sample bottles. Located on the steamer Port Napier, ho was in receipt of a good character from the master of that vessel, who ui-ked that lie be allowed to return to the ship.
Tn view of the fact that- Bannister was making a first appearance, the court decided to give him a chance, he being accordingly convicted and ordered to. <'ome up for sentence if called Upon wjthin 12 months.
