MAGISTERIAL BENCH

SHORTAGE IN WELLINGTON

ANOTHER TO BE APPOINTED.

The number of stipendiary magistrates at present presiding oyer sessions of the Alagistrate’e Court is one short of the usual complement. With the departure of Air Hunt for Auckland, Messrs \Y. G. Riddell, S-AI., and EPage, S.AI., were left to conduct the sittings, which have ever since been presided over by these magistrates, except on one or two occasions when police cases have been disposed of by justices of the peace. The extra work which has necessarily been entailed by the curtailment of the number of active magistrates has now been borne for a number of weeks.

It is understood that another magistrate is soon to be placed on the. Wellington bench, which no doubt will he a welcome move, aa duties now fall ratjier lieayily op the magistrates carrying on the business of the court.
