MANAWATU SHOW
EXHIBITION OPENS TO-DAY. EXTENSIVE IMPROVEMENTS TO GROUND. By Telegraph—" Times” Special Reportci PALMERSTON N., October 2ft. After a spell of bad weather the local prophet forecasts better conditions for the opening of the 38th Manawatu Spring Show at Palmerston North. The weather to-dav is overcast, with a stiff south-west wind blowing. The total entries for the show is 3501. being 464 below' that of last November There is a slight decreaee in the horse classes, and an increase of 35 in cattle Sheep number 472. which is 184 abovt last November, and pigs 20 more. Thr falling off is mainly in the art and fancr needlework, home industries and schoo exhibits, which account for over 400 dc crease.
The technical and public schools ex hibits were judged to-day. The jwdgi considered the drawing and modelling excellent, but mapping below par. Tho showground presents an animate appearance to-day, exhibitors are iwriall ing exhibits; while showmen are gettin ready for operations. A scheme is in hand for extensive a’terations and additions to the show ground, including the enlarging am' levelling of the oval for sports purpose*, the moving of pavilion, moving eattl. stalls, ond the provision of a concrete road round the side shows.
The ndvent of a royal show is being discussed with great interest.
