THEFT OF MAIL BAG
FOUND IN HARBOUR,
“TATTS” TICKETS FROM NEW ZEALAND.

A mailbag brought from New Zealand by the steamer Katoa to Newcastle was found floating in Newcastle harbour slashed open. Apparently such letters as were worth while were purloined. Tho bag contained no registered matter, but there were many letters for Tasmania containing applications for “Tatt’s” ticket©, accompanied by postal notes. All the letters left in tho bag had been opened. An arrest lias been made. STEWARD ARRESTED HOBART BAG SELECTED. Ono of the of the Katoa has been arrested in connection with the diW'wory of the mail bag found in Newcastle harbour. Over two hundred letters were discovered floating in tho water. All had been opened and nearly everyone carried postal note©, tho bulk consisting of applications for Tattersalls tickets. Crossed postal notes had been left untouched. The Hobart bag had been i selected those for Sydney and Melbourne being left untouched.
