MURDER MOST FOUL
DESPERATE DEED AT WARRAADI
WOMAN DIES FROM BRUTAL INJURIES HUSBAND SAVAGELY ATTACKED AND ROBBED A SHOCKING GRIME At a late hour on Friday evening Wanganui was the scene of a terrible crime. Mrs Oates, a local resident, was foully murdered, while her husband, Mr W. R. Gate?' a well-known storekeeper there, received severe injuries at the hands of the murderer. Oates, returning home from his store, was set upon and beaten into insensibility at his own back door.
On recovering he found that his wife had been the victim of a murderous attack, bound, and gagged.
Removed to the hospital, her case was seen to be hopeless from the outset, and she died a few hours later.
The cash takings at the store, over which Oates carried with him, are missing, and detectives, who have arrived in the town from Wellington, are diligently searching for the murderer.
