AUCKLAND WOMAN CHARGED
Per Press Association,
■ CHRISTOHURCfi, October 27. An unusual case was beard in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when Richaid Ryan, aged 32, and Mrs Miriam Gwen Brierley, aged 24, were charged with the theft, at Auckland, of a sew-ing-machine belonging to J. H. Hudson. Counsel for the defendants said that Mrs Brierley left her husband because he- refused to work. She received the sewing-machine as a gift from Hudson, and considered the case was brought out of spite by her husband and Hudson to get her back to Auckland. Ryan had a clear cause of action in respect to his arrest. The police stated that Ryan was believed to ho a married man with two children. Mrs Brierley had one child.
The magistrate said he had no alternative but to remand the accused to Auckland. Bail was allowed.
