LICENSING REFORM
CORPORATE CONTROL.
MISUNDERSTANDING AT SYNOD,
In the report telegraphed to the “Times” of the discussion of Auckland Anglican Synod upon the matter of licensing reform, it was inadvertently made to appear that Synod had endorsed the scheme put forward by Canon Williams for corporate control. In effect, the Synod vote agreed to nothing more than that the Prime Minuter be urged to redeem his pledge, at the earliest possible opportunity, to introduce drastic reforms of tho licensing law.
Of several motions and amendment© placed before Synod in connection with the liquor question, only one, as outlined above, was carried. An amendment moved by Mr C. F. Bennett, that an addition be" made to this motion confining the issues to two. prohibition and corporate control, was lost. A further amendment, moved by the Rev. C. W. Wood, was carried, by which were deleted several other motions, commending the corporate control scheme.
