KARORI TUNNEL

TRACK TO BE DUPLICATED. IMPORTANT WORKS IN HAND. A numiher of gangs of municipal tramway track workers are at present busy in various parts of the city. Loop accommodation near the Rigi, °n the Karori line, has been considerably in* creased to allow of the more convenient and safer working of oars during heavy and night traffic hours, and this week a start is to be made with the duplication of the track through the Karori tunnel, no doubt with a view of providing for the additional traffic which must b© handled when the Northland extension is put through. A good deal of renewal work is on the way in Riddiford street, where part of the line is practically the original track, and consequently the rail bedding requires attention. The duplication of the Miramar and Seatoun lino along Coutts street is also to be taken in hand again shortly, the double line for the time 'being to bo carried as far as Salek street, leaving a slhort length to be done to the Miramar Junction.

Mercer street is now being dressed out with a bituminous mixed surfacing, and if the weather holds favourable the length between Willis street and Wakefield street should be completed and ready for all traffic again by the middle of the week.
