TEST OF GOLF BALLS. LONDON October 14. The “Weekly Dispatch” says that for the purpose or settling the oft-discuss-ed question of how the modern school of golfers would fare with the guttapercha. ball, xiniversally used in 1902, an interesting test was held. The prominent veterans of the gutta-peroba days opposed Wethered, Tolley, and others. Tolley first drove a gutta-percha ball 15 yards. He struggled to hold his own throughout a long game against Blackwell. Wethered showed some wonderfully controlled shots. He did the round in 75, a score seldom accomplished with solid balls. The match was squared, the veterans confessing tli.nt the old ball held no terrors for the new generation.
