BUSINESS BEFORE OOUNCIL.
INTERSTATE TOURS DISCUSSED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. At tho Cricket Council meeting, Mr Heathoote Williams said all in New Zealand wore workers, and' it was essential that men who had to earn their daily bread should be physically fit, and men could gain that condition by participating in cricket. He was strongly against professionals, and taking up more time at cricket than work could allow. It was tho duty of the oouncil not only to foster the game in tho cities, but to endeavour to provide cricket in the “outpart of the country, and provide sport for all. ODD PROGRAMME ADVOCATED. Mv D. Reese urged the restitution of the programme ovolved by the oouncil some years ago Then players would know for a few years ahead when teams Wei's to visit Australia, and when team* could be expected in New He spoke for Slate teams against those under the control of the Australian Board', and also of the desirability of including young players. The New South Wales proposal was much more satisfactory in ctery way—first, the saving of the cost of assembling, and, secondly, tho saving of 5s per day to players. The application of tho Waiapti Association for affiliation was granted on condition that it defended tho Hawke Cup (if necessary) at Gisborne. CHALLENGES RECEIVED.
A recommendation to the incoming committee was that the colours of the N.Z. team be Changed, as blaok was rather combre, and suggested mourning, end that tho fernleaf could be mounted on a more cheerful hue.
The secretary reported six challenges received for the Hawke Cup—Wairarapa, South Taranaki, Nelson, Poverty Bay, Hawke's Bay, aud Manawatu. Mr Martin spoke strongly in fnvoui of the continuation of tho North-South Island match, and hoped that the management committee would keep tho matter in mow.
