ONSLOW WATER-SUPPLY

ROAD TO NEW RESERVOIR BEING CONSTRUCTED. READY IN TEN WEEKS. The first stage of an important work was commenced yesterday, when a gang of the City Corporation’s workmen started making a road to the summit of Kaiwarra hill. This hill has been chosen to bear upon its erect- the new reservoir for the Onslow water suTiply. It is south of the old Porima road by some distance. and is 721 feet high, the most prominent eminence in that part of the city suburb, being situated in the midst of farm land. ' A winding road is to be constructed to the top of this hill, and once this ie done material will be carted up it tc commence construction of the reservoif itself. The work of making the roac will occupy several weeks, and then th« major task will be started. The water supply is to come from the new pipe line which, of course, will not be read** for some time to come. AT«KARORI PIPE LAYING TO COMMENCE. NECESSARY LAND ACQUIRED. Tlie finance committee of the City Council went out to Karori yesterday morning on a visit of inspection of the route of the new pipe line which is to be laid off the new system through Karori reservoir. The council will have to acquire a certain amount of land at several spots along the proposed route of the mains, and negotiations in this matter are almost complete. As mentioned recently in these columns, the tunnelling operations at Orongorongo should come to finality within a measurable distance; that is by February next, and the actual work of laying the main will net commence for some time yet, as the necessary pipes will not be to hand until 1924 Reticulation in Karori and Onslow is to commence meantime, however, and everything is now being put in order for a start in the near future.

The laying of drainage pipes in both the Karori and Onslow districts is soon to. commence, a tender from the Wellington Drain Pine Company, undertaking the supply of drain pipes for the sum of £14,435, having been passed by the council.
