BRITISH MARKETS
WHAT DOMINIONS WANT
MR BRUCE EXPLAINS
ReutcrV Telegram. LONDON, October 25
Mr Stanley Bruce, at a .dinner given by the National Fanners’ Union, urged the* promotion of agriculture in Britain as the dominions’ one hope for industrial Britain. He declared that the dominions were agreed that Britain was the first' market for British agriculture; but he asked that thereafter the dominions should have the first claim for supplying the British market with commodities not procured in Britain.
The dominions wanted the markets in Britain, but if they were unsuccessful they would procure them elsewhere. The main cause of trouble was the freedom of the British market to all competitors. While hr- was thankful for the British Government’s offer of preference, he hoped the Goveinment would do more.
Mr Bruco roundly condemned the Russian wheat agreement as against the interests of the dominions, and concluded: “Give the agriculture in the dominions a chance, jnd we will provide a market as good as Russia in each of the seven seas of the world.”
